Over 2,000 poor rural dwellers in Gombe State are to benefit from about N100million micro loan disbursed by the National Poverty Alleviation Programme (NAPEP) under its Village Solution Scheme
NAPEP coordinator in the state, Alhaji Muhammad Yakubu Lance, who made this known in Gombe at the presentation of cheques to banks for onward disbursement to beneficiaries, explained that about 1,000 beneficiaries selected from 40 cooperative societies from across the eleven local government areas in the state would benefit from over N60 million micro credit scheme under the first phase of the programme.
He pointed out that the agency in its effort to ensure fairness and justice in the disbursement and recovery of loans within two years, had handed over the responsibilities to microfinance institutions and banks.
Towards this end, five microfinance banks, according to him, have been selected to disburse the loans, while the state government is being expected to provide counterpart funding.
In his speech, Governor Danjuma Goje, represented by the permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Mr. James Pisagi, commended the NAPEP Village Solution initiative as a poverty alleviation strategy mainly targeted at improving the socio-economic status of the rural poor and their communities
He pledged his administration's support to the implementation of the programme through providing its counterpart fund.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, the general manager, Gombe State Micro Financing Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Marafa, pledged commitment to prompt repayment of loans as they are members of functional cooperative societies in the state.
