Siphiwe Tshabalala took Bafana Bafana to a 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea on Saturday.

The Kaizer Chiefs’ star scored for the visitors in the 17th minute.

It is the midfielder’s second goal for South Africa in 21 appearances.

The match brings to an end Bafana’s qualifying campaign for the 2010 African Nations Cup, but was meaningless as neither team still had a chance to qualify for the next round.

In a slight chance of formation, Benni McCarthy played deep, alongside Teko Modise, with Siyabonga Nkosi alone up-front.

South Africa finish on equal points with Sierra Leone, who were beaten 4-1 away by group winners Nigeria.

It is South Africa’s second win in a row – after a squad of locally-based players beat Malawi 3-0 last week – and team coach Joel Santana will hope they can carry the winning streak into their friendly international against the high-flying Ghana on Wednesday in Bloemfontein.

SABC 1 did not broadcast the game due to 'technical difficulties'.

South Africa line-up: Khune – Gaxa, Mokoena, Morris, Carnell – Dikgacoi, Davids, Modise, Tshabalala – McCarthy, Nkosi
