Former Steinhoff Boss Markus Jooste Dies by Suicide - Reports

The police are investigating the death of former Steinhoff boss Markus Jooste after reports that he had shot himself at his Hermanus property, reports Daily Maverick.

 He was 63.

His death comes a day after he was ordered to pay R475-million to the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) on or before Friday, April 19, 2024, - giving him a month to come up with the funds.

Jooste stepped down in late 2017, sparking a crisis that almost destroyed the company. Billions of dollars in investments, including pension funds, vanished as investors discovered the company's finances were misleading.
